Over the past few weeks, the newsrooms of Good Morning America have been receiving handwritten letters from IUDM asking for coverage for the 2015 marathon. Starting today, the IUDM community will take Twitter and social media by storm to heighten this campaign to reach Good Morning America with the hashtag #IUDMtoGMA.
The following is a how-to guide on how you can get involved with the #IUDMtoGMA campaign, and to help IUDM get to national headlines: WHAT IS #IUDMtoGMA? #IUDMtoGMA is a Twitter campaign to obtain national coverage for IUDM 2015 through Good Morning America (GMA). WHAT SHOULD I TWEET? - Why IUDM deserves national coverage by GMA - What IUDM has done for your college experience - Why you personally love IUDM so much - Random Riley facts - Photos of you at the marathon/with Riley kids/with your committee WHO SHOULD I TWEET TO? Michael Corn (@michaelcorn) Senior Executive Producer, GMA Robin Roberts (@RobinRoberts) Anchor, GMA Heather Riley (@heatherrileyABC) VP, News Communications for GMA Good Morning America (@GMA) Amy Robach (@arobach) Anchor, GMA George Stephanopoulos (@Gstephanopoulos) Chief Anchor, GMA THE MORE YOU TWEET, THE BETTER OF A CHANCE THE HASHTAG WILL HAVE AT GETTING RECOGNIZED! Retweet others' tweets, but also make sure you add your own unique content! The more creative, the better! WHY DOES IT MATTER? IUDM does a great job of attaining local and regional coverage, but national headlines are ones we have failed to grasp. If Good Morning America catches wind of our story and our mission, fundraising and awareness will skyrocket, ultimately serving more kids than we could ever imagine. Tweeting takes NO MORE than 30 seconds - imagine if YOUR tweet was the one that caught Michael or Robin's attention. EXAMPLES: "@michaelcorn because of IUDM, I've met my best friends #IUDMtoGMA" "@RobinRoberts last year, IUDM raised over $3.2 million for Riley Hospital for Children #IUDMtoGMA" "*attach a picture of you at the marathon* @HeatherRileyABC *Riley kid's name* and I are SO excited to dance for 36 hours in ___ days! #IUDMtoGMA" Here's to storming social media and the road to national coverage!

On Saturday evening, Indiana University Dance Marathon brought more than 1,400 people to the Marriott in downtown Indianapolis for our 10th annual Gala event.
The cocktail-styled event included dinner, a silent auction, a live auction, and guest speakers throughout the program. Some items featured in the silent auction were packages of Riley memorabilia, autographed sports collectables and ticket packages, jewelry, and handmade IU decorations. Live auction highlights were a custom-made IU coffee table and four destination vacation homes that were also up for bid. Dr. Mervin Yoder, Director of the Herman B. Wells Center for Pediatric Research, was the first speaker of the evening followed by Riley Lesh and her family, who celebrated her Riley story after she completed her 170th dance marathon earlier in the afternoon. The Keynote speaker of the evening was Jill Waibel, who helped found IUDM in 1991 to commemorate the life of her close friend, Ryan White. The evening concluded with a special surprise from Casey Crouse and the #ImForAsh campaign. Crouse is competing in Ironman competitions to help honor the memory of his sister, Ashley Louise Crouse and to raise money through IUDM for Riley Hospital for Children. The campaign raised just under $12,000 before the night's ceremonies concluded. Overall, the night was a huge success with the company of many committee members, directors, family and friends to help applaud all that IUDM stands for. For The Kids, For Ryan, For Ashley. Committee members, Riley families, IU students and faculty, and other members of the IUDM community came together on Kirkwood Avenue to listen to live music, play with the kids, participate in contests, and eat tons of food. Rockin' for Riley is a great opportunity to spend the holiday with friends while contributing to a great cause. We hope everyone had a super fun day and we welcome those who registered this week to the IUDM family!
