FTK All day, Every day |
Listen up y’all. This is big news coming from the self-proclaimed #1 foodie of IUDM. If 6000 orders are placed on btownmenus.com this week (10/12-10/18) then they will donate $6,000 to IUDM and Riley Hospital for Children. That means that your food cravings now result in money going straight to Riley Hospital. This is probably one of my favorite ways to raise money for kids because I am feeding my belly in the process. Done with the chit chat, let’s get to the good stuff of this post. Below I have listed a few of my favorite restaurants that you can order from off of BtownMenus. The first is Butch’s Grillacatessen. Butch’s is one of the best places in Bloomington to feed your food baby. I recommend the “Big Grilla’s”. These massive subs will keep you full till next Tuesday. You can customize these subs with anything from chicken fingers to french fries to onion rings. Fried, fried, fried. Want something healthy? Yeah they got that too. Also, have you ever had matzah ball soup? No? Stop reading this blog, and order now. Next on the list would be The Chocolate Moose. That’s right folks, ice cream delivered straight to your door…or outside your dorm if you’re still livin’ that life. This week might be a good week to take a day off that stupid diet that you’re on. Feast away into this creamy, chilled, deliciousness. One of the best ice cream establishments in town just got better. Buffalouie’s. Do I even need to go into detail about this one? All I recommend is getting the traditional wings, they are way better than the boneless. (Don’t get me wrong, the boneless wings are tasty, but the reason why Buffa is at the top is due to those gorgeous traditional wingdalings. Feel free to get messy after you dig into a mound of wings. I won’t judge. Sobon Korean Café is the curveball that you may or may not have even heard of. Located on 10th Street, in near Jimmy John’s is this prime spot for your Korean Kravings. You probably did not know you craved it, but you will after your first experience. Go on now, try something different, whether it is the classic “BeBimBab” dish, or another yummy meal from this fine establishment. I enjoy the Bulgogi Deopbab-something that definitely isn’t too crazy for your average appetite. Kimchi rice is also exquisite. (If you ever go to the restaurant get a Milkis drink-carbonated milk, it sounds crazy, but is so damn good). Smokin’ Jacks will round off my list of places to try on BtownMenus. SJ is your Bloomington BBQ destination. Owned by Kilroy’s, this place has everything from ribs to brisket to BBQ chicken. The sides are also incredible, specifically the corn bread and mac & cheese. Take a drip down South and embrace the spirit of the ‘que.
Well that was my short list, but oh boy do I have more recommendations for you!! Fact is, ORDER OFF OF BTOWNMENUS.COM TODAY!!!! I mean, it’s for the kids. But if you are interested in learning more about my food adventures around Bloomington and recommendations…check out this nifty B-town restaurant guide my sister made for me when she graduated. I have added my own ratings and comments as well. Check it out and let me know what you think! Okay, so yeah, btownmenus. Just do it already. I'm Jason DuBro, and I'm FTK!

"All good men and women must take responsibility to create legacies that will take the next generation to a level we could only imagine." -- Jim Rohn
On IU Dance Marathon's Legacy Day, we give all IUDM alumni (committee members, dancers, donors, and all inspirations) to reflect on their experiences and the impact they've had on Riley Hospital for Children through one of our biggest pushes for awareness and fundraising. Legacy Day also happened to fall on National Dance Marathon Day for Children's Miracle Network. We celebrated by holding a flash mob in downtown Indianapolis lead by the Morale Committee and concluded IU's victory over Purdue in the Old Riley Bucket Challenge. These efforts combined only enhanced our push for the #IUDMtoGMA campaign as IUDM hopes to reach an unprecedented national audience through Good Morning America. Casey Crouse, the brother of the late Ashley Louise Crouse -- whose memory lives on through IUDM, capped off Legacy Week by taking that quote to heart as he finished 103rd overall in the Louisville IRONMAN Triathlon. Crouse has spearheaded the #ImForAsh (IRONMAN For Ashley) campaign, which has raised more than $140,000 towards its goal of a quarter of a million dollars. All of the donations will be donated to the kids at the Riley Hospital for Children through IUDM to honor the 10-year legacy of Ashley since her passing. With just three weeks until the marathon, its days like these that remind us how powerful our voice can be and how strong the IUDM community is. A huge thank you to all of our donors and supporters this week and every week, and a gigantic congratulations to Casey for his incredible fundraising efforts, dedication to the cause, and outstanding performance in the IRONMAN triathlon. I'm Andy, and I'm FTK!
Ironically, in the end, my Riley Development Committee posted my final time in our GroupMe before I even knew my time myself. The support was indescribable. Throughout my training, I also had one of Ashley's roommates, Andrea Porter from Kappa Kappa Gamma, reach out to me through a Facebook message. After this message below, I find it nearly impossible to be on a run and not be reminded of Ashley's love for life or feel her light shining down on me. Hi Alissa! Good luck this weekend!!! Ash really just loved life! When we were at Kappa she would walk into the room always signing a trumpet sound... not sure why but just always so happy!!! When we would go running together she loved the big hill near the soccer stadium. She loved the challenge of getting up but more important how great you felt after. When you run the marathon think of how great it will feel running up the incline at the end. More important be grateful for the day and being able to help set goals and enjoy the amazing race. Lots of us write ALC on our hands when running a race. She always said FTK (for the kids) if they can be thankful and happy in the hospital and we can accomplish anything. Wish I was there running with you! Have fun and know your message means so much to me. "Ashley's Hill" has been a weekly route for me, and every single time I run up this hill from Fee to Jordan, I think of Ashley's strength and picture her shining down on me. I also feel the strength from the kids at Riley Hospital for Children and the strength of everyone in the DM family.
I have never met Ashley, but I do not need to in order to understand her contagious energy and love for life. Through her legacy that she has left behind, she has taught me so much about life and what it is all about. How to love, how to care, and how to "just be" in every moment of every day.
